Singapore selected as prestigious host city for the 2026 MotoGP season opener

MotoGP to inaugurate its 2026 season with an exclusive launch event in Singapore this February.

Singapore has been chosen to host the premier motorcycle racing series from February 6-7, 2026, serving as the venue for the worldwide unveiling of the 2026 MotoGP season rather than a competitive race weekend, as reported by Autosport.

This Singapore event marks MotoGP's second global launch ceremony, following the debut event held in Bangkok earlier this year. 

The 2026 gathering will also represent the inaugural launch under the stewardship of Liberty Media, Formula One Group's parent company, which recently completed its acquisition of Dorna, MotoGP's commercial rights holder.

Earlier this year, Liberty Media executed a comparable large-scale launch event in London for the 2025 Formula One season opener. Dorna and the 11 MotoGP teams collectively chose Singapore as the venue for the 2026 season launch, prevailing over competing bids from Kuala Lumpur and Melbourne in the selection process.

MotoGP represents the apex of motorcycle racing, featuring 22 riders across 11 teams competing for the world championship title. The 2026 season will witness these competitors battling across 22 grand prix events spanning five continents.

Singapore's selection as the launch destination has also influenced the 2026 pre-season testing schedule, with the inaugural official test now scheduled for February 2-4 at Malaysia's Sepang International Circuit, conveniently located just a short drive from Singapore.

Although the location and timing for the second preseason test remain unconfirmed, there's potential to utilize the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, which is set to host the opening MotoGP round on March 1.

The newly revealed BMW M5 Touring MotoGP Safety Car made its debut at this year's Bangkok event.
